“When you look out on the ocean, you cannot see the millions of aquatic life forms teeming below the surface, but you accept that they are down there. When you look at a great forest, you cannot see beyond the initial tree line, but you know that many more trees exist in the forest beyond those that you are able to see. The cells and atoms that compose our bodies are beyond our perception, but they are no less real. The lives of our great-great-grandparents can no longer be observed, but they still lived. Furthermore, you exist because they existed. You live and experience the world because they lived and experienced the world. They had no way to foresee the details of your life, to know who you would become or the challenges that you would overcome in your life, but you exist today and reflect their influences. In the same way, we have no foresight or knowledge of the lives of those who will live in generations to come, but if nothing should happen to interrupt the chain of humanity, they will live and they will reflect our influences. They will experience the world as we have and overcome challenges as we have. They will know life as we do.”
